Basic Small Boat - ASA Course 110

 

Northern Breezes Sailing School offers you a fast track Learn to Sail course on the fun, fast, new, virtually untippable Windrider 17' trimaran sailboats on Medicine Lake.

This is a two-session, 6-hour course on the WindRider 17. The on-water sessions are taught by Northern Breezes Sailing School instructors certified by the American Sailing Association (ASA). Class size is limited to two students. These are almost private lessons. They are family friendly.

Each student will receive the book Let's Go Sailing, published by American Sailing Association, ASA logbook, and the video/DVD Sailing Fundamentals prior to the start of class, upon registration. Note: With two students, this course can take place almost at any time, schedule at your convenience.

Class Location

Medicine Lake: Take Hwy 169 North to 42nd Ave/Rockford Rd. Exit on Rockford Rd. Take a left at the stop lights. Follow Rockford Rd. about a mile. You will see French Park on your left with a sign on your right. Turn left. Follow down to the lake. The class meets at the sailboat docks, east of the swimming beach.

Course Outline

 Day 1: Getting Underway, Tacking, Jibing, Points of Sail, Steering,
Sail Trim, Docking, Securing the Boat.

Day 2: Review Day 1, Reefing, Crew Overboard Drill (COB), Solo
Checkout, Written Exam.

Classes are cancelled and rescheduled during storm advisory or rain days. Graduates will receive ASA certification, National Safe Boating certification approved by NASBLA and the U.S. Coast Guard, and a Certificate of Completion. Graduates also qualify for discounts at several local Boat Clubs and Rental Fleets.

Course fee: Two 3-hour on-the-water WindRider 17 sessions on Medicine Lake, video, textbook, logbook and certifications: $195.  Instructor to Student Ratio is One to Two Maximum!
