Northern Breezes and Shorewood Yacht Club bring you a first class opportunity to sail on beautiful, prestigious Lake Minnetonka just minutes from Excelsior on the main lake. The boat club offers you affordable, hassle-free sailing without maintenance, insurance, ownership or slip fees. Just reserve a boat using our online reservation system and go sailing!
 
The Shorewood Yacht Club facilities offer a beautiful club house with full amenities including barbecue picnic options, a fireplace for chilly evenings, full kitchen, bath and shower facilities. Shorewood is a quiet secluded marina with the best all-weather protection on Lake Minnetonka. Full boat club membership includes membership in the Shorewood Yacht Club. You will be invited to participate in social, cruising and club racing events.
 

Our fleet:

Our Lake Minnetonka fleet consists of an O'Day 28 with wheel steering, head and inboard engine; a Pearson 26 with head and an outboard; and, two 23 foot Ensign day sailors  with a third Ensign in back-up. The Ensigns are the same boats which we use for our Basic Keelboat classes. They have huge cockpits and have been rigged for easy sailing. The Pearson 26 is also a very easy boat to sail and has a roomy interior for younger children and a private head. Our boats are very well maintained.

The O'Day 28 is available to full, six use, and three use boat club members who have ASA 103 certification or above. There is a $150 per use charge for the O'Day 28 for eligible boat club members at Shorewood Yacht Club. A check ride is required before the boat can be used.

In addition, our boats in the Apostle Islands are available at a special discount rate to our full and 6-use boat club members who are Northern Breezes' graduates or have ASA 104 certification and have taken a check ride. Higher level boat club members receive a 20% discount on Apostle Island boats. All Northern Breezes' graduates receive a 10% discount. Pike's Bay Marina, our Apostle Islands Location.

Full and Six-Use members receive a 20% discount off charter fees on our 34-36 foot yachts on Lake Superior and our 30 and 34 foot yachts on Lake Michigan. Call for details. 

Regular Full Membership.  This is the most popular membership. It includes unlimited boat use plus membership in the Shorewood Yacht Club. $1,995.
 
Six Use Membership. This limited membership fits busy folks who want to get out on the water but do not need a full membership. This membership level does not include full membership in the Shorewood Yacht Club. $1,295.
 
Three Use Membership. This very limited membership fits folks who want to sail a few times but their schedules preclude a more active membership. This level replaces day rentals which are cost prohibitive for insurance and other reasons. The prerequisites are the same as the other two levels. No membership in Shorewood Yacht Club is included. $695.
 
While we are obviously more comfortable and happier with full, unlimited boat club memberships, we strive to give every customer the same high quality service. Our boats and facilities are maintained to the highest standards.
 

An O'Day 28 is available to our boat club members with Northern Breezes' ASA 103 certification or higher or an equivalent with check ride.

What we want from you:

• Be a graduate of Northern Breezes Sailing School's ASA Basic Keelboat course, or . . .

• An equivalent course (preferably ASA Basic Keelboat) on the right size boats, or . .

• Equivalent and current experience.

• A check-ride may be required. $75 Minimum.

• For the O'Day 28:

  • Be a graduate of Northern Breezes Sailing School's ASA Basic Coastal Cruising course, or . . .

  • An equivalent course (preferably ASA Basic Coastal Cruising) on the right size boats, or . .

  • Equivalent and current experience.

  • A check-ride is required. $150 Minimum.

• For the Apostle Islands Boats:

  • Be a graduate of Northern Breezes Sailing School's ASA Basic Coastal Cruising and Bareboat Charter courses.

  • An equivalent course (preferably ASA Basic Coastal Cruising and Bareboat Charter) on the right size boats, or . . .

  • Equivalent and current experience.

  • A check-ride may be required. $200 Minimum.

  • Full and six use boat club members receive a 20% discount off quoted prices based on season.

  • All Northern Breezes' graduates receive a 10% discount off quoted prices based on season.

More details about, "How it works":

• A use is defined as a time window. We use three time windows: 0800 - 1200; 1230 - 1630; 1700 - 15 minutes before Sunset. Does not apply to Apostle Island Boats.

• Reservations for uses are done through our web site. We provide you with a login name and password.  You can make reservations up to two weeks in advance. You will receive an email confirmation of your reservation which is also sent to the office. You will notice that the Ensigns are reserved by Northern Breezes Sailing School for class times. We cancel school reservations if classes are not viable ten days before the first class session. View availability of Apostle Island boats on web, make reservations by phone or email. If you don't see what you want call!

• We provide all boat club members a booklet with detailed checklists and instructions on how to operate each of the boats and in particular the outboard engines. If all else fails, we provide a couple of phone numbers to call.

• We hold a facility and boat indoctrination for all members each spring and for each member who signs up for an annual membership during the season.

• Please tell us anything which is wrong with a boat, dock or the facility. This helps us keep your experience happy and pleasant!

• At the full membership level, you have full access to the Clubhouse facilities and grounds. You will receive mailings and e-mail regarding Shorewood Yacht Club social events and club racing events. Don't let the word "racing" inhibit your participation. There is a massive difference between a Championship Golf Course experience and a friendly Club experience for example. At the sailing level, this is a friendly "Club" experience.

• At the six use and three use boat club levels, your access to the Clubhouse facilities and grounds is limited to the restrooms and docks leading to the boat club boats.
