Captain Mike Bastin

Mike is a licensed US Coast Guard Master and certified American Sailing Association sailing instructor. He was born and raised in Australia and living on the coast of this dedicated sailing nation it is no surprise that he developed a deep love of the sea. Mike was given his first sailboat (a sabot) at the young age of 7 and currently has over 40 years of sailing experience.

In 1994 he came to the USA from Australia for two years to teach and help direct the sailing program for YMCA Camp St. Croix in Hudson, WI. In 2002 he became an instructor for Northern Breezes Sailing School on Lake Minnetonka and in 2012 will be heading up the new Duluth branch of the school.

When not teaching he and his family like to take sailing vacations and have sailed in locations as diverse as the British Virgin Island, the English Channel, the Australian Whitsunday Islands and Thailand.

Mike holds American Sailing Association instructor ratings in Basic Small Boat, Basic Keelboat, Basic Coastal Cruising, Bareboat Chartering, Coastal Navigation and Radar.
