I first learned to sail in a
small boat sailing merit badge class at Tomahawk
Scout Reservation. I loved it so much that I became
a counselor at Tomahawk for the next 4 years. As an
Aquatics Specialist, I served as a lifeguard and
taught merit badge classes, going sailing every
chance I could. By the end of my four years I had
become the unofficial “sailing guy,” responsible for
the sailing fleet and the sailing merit badge. I was
out on the water sailing around 20 hours a week in
the camp's many boats, mostly Johnson Mini-scows,
Sunfish along with a few catamarans and a 22'
Chrysler.
As much fun as camp was, I
wanted a job closer to home and on the
recommendation of one of my fellow counselors, I
contacted Northern Breezes Sailing School and
attended their Instructor’s Qualifying Clinic. I am
now an ASA-certified Basic Keelboat Instructor,
enjoying my first season with Northern Breezes. I
look forward to meeting you and know that you will
have a great time with us out on the water.
