Three Day Flotilla Vacations for Families, Groups, Friends & Individuals

Northern Breezes offers a new way to share the fun of cruising with fellow sailors on Lake Superior, the Cruising Flotilla.

Are you new to sailing or lacking a full crew? Join the crew of the lead boat or another boat captained by a U.S. Coast Guard-licensed Captain. These three day adventures will include a fun mix of organized and informal activities including skipper briefings each morning, dining aboard and dining onshore. Explore the wilderness beauty of Lake Superior’s pristine beaches, unique communities and remote harbors.

Are you an experienced bareboat skipper? Then set sail on a custom yacht of your choosing. You will be accompanied by a lead boat with a professional captain, technician and host from Northern Breezes. The lead boat will act as your event organizer, guide and support team.

Apostle Islands Flotillas

Join our flotilla of sailboats that will explore the pristine Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. The Apostle Islands includes 21 islands and 12 miles of mainland shoreline. These beautiful, uninhabited islands offer deep, clear water, excellent anchorages., expansive sand beaches, shipwrecks, sea caves, rugged shorelines and the largest collection of historic lighthouses in the USA.. Many of the islands have docks constructed by the National Park Service, which are available for day or overnight use. Sailing amongst the sheltered islands is a pleasure, but can also be challenging as the wind twists through the maze of islands. Weather and time permitting, other possible destinations include Cornucopia, Wisconsin, Silver Bay, Minnesota and Black River Harbor, Michigan. Lake Superior is known as the “Caribbean of the North” and this region offers some the world's best sailing for
novice to expert sailors.

Boats: Our skippered boats include a 38' cruising catamaran and three 34-36 foot monohulls. Those owning their own boats or chartering a boat may join the Flotilla for a fee.

Flotilla Location:  Apostle Islands, Lake Superior. Flotillas start at Pikes Bay and Port Superior Marinas on Pikes Bay, just south of Bayfield, Wisconsin.

2012 Season Schedule:

Summer Sailstice Flotilla: June 15-17
August Flotilla: August 17-19

Prerequisites: Bareboat Charter Certification if skippering a chartered boat.
Adventurous spirit with a fun quotient for individuals, couples or families aboard skippered boats!

Food: Provided on Northern Breezes boats with Captains aboard. Meals aboard are included; meals ashore are the responsibility of the participant.  Food may be arranged for bareboat yachts.

Cost:  $549 / person on Captained yachts
$1,049 / couple on Captained yachts
$100 / in addition to bareboat charter fee, if joining the Flotilla on your own boat or a chartered yacht.
If you charter our boats, the $100 fee does not apply.

Lake Superior Flotillas

These exciting three -day adventures occur twice each season between Duluth, Minnesota and Bayfield, Wisconsin. Sail aboard Aerie, our Islander 36, Taboo or Jolly Swagman, our Hunter 34 live-aboard yachts. Sail through the beautiful Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. Weather permitting, we will anchor out one night in the islands. Visit the charming village of Cornucopia, Wisconsin. Dine ashore and spend the night at Siskiwit Bay Marina. Cruise the Twin Ports of Duluth and Superior. Sail past the lake freighters and ore docks in this impressive commercial harbor.

Pre-board the boat the night before at either Pikes Bay Marina in Bayfield or Spirit Lake Marina in Duluth. Leave your vehicle at the final destination; we will shuttle sailors to the starting location. 

Boats: Our skippered boats include three 34-36 foot monohulls.

Flotilla Location:  Lake Superior, between Duluth, Minnesota and Bayfield, Wisconsin.

2012 Season Schedule:

Spring Flotilla (Duluth to Bayfield): May 26-28
Spring Flotilla (Return: Bayfield to Duluth): May 29-31
Fall Flotilla (Bayfield to Duluth): Sept 29 - Oct 1

Prerequisites:  None

Food:   Meals aboard are provided; meals ashore are the responsibility of the participants.

Cost: $349 per person; includes $200 Early/Late season discount, meals onboard and transportation between Duluth and Bayfield.
Additional $100 Discount for sailing May 26-28 and May 29-31.

Lake Michigan Flotillas

Skippered Flotilla to Chicago

Join us June 4-5 for Northern Breezes sail from Ludington, Michigan to Chicago.  This is a two day adventure beginning at the Ludington Municipal Marina and sailing to downtown Chicago.  We will be sailing aboard Freedom, our Hunter  Legend 37.5 based out of Ludington.

We will meet on Monday June 4 in Ludington and depart on Tuesday June 5 from Ludington.  We plan to Sail to Racine, Wisconsin on Tuesday, spending the evening there and having dinner ashore.  On Wednesday, June 5 we will sail from Racine to Chicago.

Cost is $249 per person, including meals aboard.  Transportation and meals ashore are the responsibility of the participants.  Participants are encouraged to leave vehicles in Chicago and travel by train or car ferry to Michigan.  Transportation will be provided from Holland or Muskegon, MI to Ludington. 

Skippered Flotilla from Chicago to Ludington

There will also be a flotilla back to Ludington.  This will also be a two day flotilla.  We will meet during the evening of June 10^th and depart Chicago on Monday, June 11^th.  Depending on wind direction, we will sail to Racine, WI or Holland, MI, spending the night in one of those harbors with dinner ashore.  On Tuesday, June 11^th, we will sail to Ludington, MI.   Transportation will be provided to Muskegon or Holland where train or car ferry transportation is available. 

Cost is $249 per person, not including meals ashore or transportation.  There is a discount of $100 for anyone who does both flotillas.  Space is limited to four participants per trip.  

Public Transportation

There are several means of transportation available.  There is rail service from Chicago to Holland, MI.  There is car ferry transportation from Ludington, MI to Manitowac, WI and from Muskegon, MI to Milwaukee, WI.  If you contact us we would be pleased to assist you in getting to the chosen departure location.
