Northern Breezes Sailing School and Fleet Sails are together offering you two terrific Learn to Sail Programs on beautiful Leech Lake. Enjoy a northern outing and sailing fun in the fresh pine woods of Walker, MN. All courses taught by Northern Breezes Sailing School instructors certified by the American Sailing Association (ASA).

Basic Keelboat
This is a 12-hour course. Classes meet evenings or weekends for three to six-hour sessions. Classes size is limited to three students onboard with each instructor. Each session starts with a briefing on the day’s lesson and getting underway and ends with docking and securing the boat. Each student will receive the book and videotape, Sailing Fundamentals, prior to the start of class, upon registration.

Course Outline
Outboard Engine, Getting Underway, Tacking, Points of Sail, Boat Balance, Trim, Docking, Securing the Boat, Tacking & Jibing, Sail Trim, Helming, Controlling Angle of Heel, Heaving to, Reefing, Crew Overboard Drill, Solo Checkout, Written Exam.

Basic Small Boat
This new, fast track Learn to Sail course is taught on fun, fast, new, virtually untippable Windrider 17' trimaran sailboats. This is a two-session, 6-hour course. Class size is limited to three students with each student getting at least 40 minutes controlling the boat each session. Each student will receive the book Let's Go Sailing, published by ASA, prior to the start of class, upon registration.

Course Outline
Getting Underway, Tacking, Jibing, Points of Sail, Foot Steering, Sail Trim, Docking, Securing the Boat, Review, Reefing, Crew Overboard Drill, Solo Checkout, Written Exam.

Classes are cancelled and rescheduled during storm advisory or rain days. 
Graduates will receive National Safe Boating certification approved by NASBLA and the USCG. Graduates also receive discounts on charter boats from Fleet Sails.
