Pacific Cup Announces Dates for Pac Cup Village and Pre-Race Activities

With less than two months to go to the first start, the Pacific Cup Yacht Club (PCYC) has announced the dates for the Pacific Cup Village at Richmond Yacht Club (RYC) and the pre-race seminars and send-off parties. The Pacific Cup Village was established in 2014 as a partnership between PCYC and RYC to promote the friendly socializing for which the "Fun race to Hawaii" is famous, and to assist competitors with last minute preparations. This year's Village continues the Pac Cup's tradition of providing a high level of support to all participants, from seasoned veterans to first timers.

Out-of-town boats are already arriving at RYC in preparation for the racing which begins the week of July 11 off St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco and finishes in Kaneohe Bay on the Hawaii Island of Oahu. All waitlisted boats have been extended invitations to participate in the 19th Pacific Cup Yacht Race.

"The inaugural Pacific Cup Village in 2014 provided valuable support for the out-of-town boats berthed at RYC, and the feedback we had was overwhelmingly positive," - says PCYC Commodore Gary Troxel. "Our volunteers will be on hand to provide support for last minute repairs, provisioning and other needs where local knowledge is helpful. And once again we've put together great seminars and a social lineup culminating in the Bon Voyage party."

Pacific Cup Village concierge services begin on July 2, offering advice, amenities and hospitality to competitors and crew. The 18 boats from outside the Bay Area are invited to berth at RYC, and with 13 RYC member boats participating in this year's race, a substantial portion of the fleet will be docked at the RYC Village. Village support for these boats will continue until July 15, the last race division's start date.

Beginning July 5, there will be speakers, entertainment and other opportunities for pre-race camaraderie. In addition, volunteers will be driving vehicles provided by BMW of San Rafael to shuttle competitors from RYC to local services and restaurants.

New this year is RYC's Housing/Adopt-A-Boat Program which will provide local housing for out-of-town competitors and their families. RYC is also coordinating "Aloha Boats" to take competitor family and friends out on the Bay near the start line to cheer them on to Hawaii.
