More Than 10,000 Pages of Natural Resource Information Now Available on DNR Web Site

me for planning sprign and summer vacations, the DNR web team has unveiled a completely redesigned web site featuring more than 10,000 pages of natural resource information. Visitors to www.dnr.state.mn.us are greeted with a new masthead and more direct links to information about Minnesota outdoor recreation areas, wildlife and other natural resources. A frequently updated message about new additions to the site and late-abreaking news is featured prominently. These and other changes were made in response to feedback received from citizens and DNR staff over the past year.

Other new and improved features include:

-the Events Calendar, a searchable calendar which provides event information for state park programs, hunting and fishing seasons, natural resource education workshops, hunter education and safety training classes, and otehr related special events;

-the Recreation Compass, which provides an interactive map interface for accessing information about state parks, canoe routes, lakes and anitonal parks and forests (fstate forests, state trails, and scientific and natural areas will be added soon);

-the Lake Finder, a second interactive map interface for locating lake survey reports and lake maps (a new addition to the web site, the lake maps can now be downloaded in TIFF format);

-an improved search engine;

-a site index; and

-an online user survey

A content continues to be added daily. Recent additions include complete descriptions of the 26 ecological classification system subsections, state park maps in Adobe PDF format, and the 1998 Fishing Regulations

The DNR web site is currently averging 14,000 hits per day. The most frequently requested items are the lake survey reports, lake maps, hunting and fishing regulations, and state parks and trail information.
