Registration for youth sailors is open for the popular Sail Newport Youth Program at www.sailnewport.org. The non-profit sailing center located in Fort Adams State Park offers programs for youth aged five years-old and up in one and two-week sessions. Boats used in the program include Optis, Bugs, Hunter 140s, Club 420s and J22s to teach beginner, intermediate, advanced and racing classes. There is a strong demand for Sail Newport’s nationally recognized program so families are urged to register before February 16 when registration closes after which enrollment will likely be handled by a random selection process. All instructors are U.S. Sailing certified. Costs varies but payment will not be due until after February 21 once a student is enrolled and the session is accepted by a parent. The sessions begin June 23 and continue through August 22. Financial Aid is available for eligible families.
