Hudson River Community Sailing Opens Second Boathouse in Manhattan

Charitable Organization Partners with La Marina in its Voyage to Inwood, New York

Hudson River Community Sailing (HRCS) announced today the opening of a new location in Inwood, New York. The Inwood location complements HRCS's operation at Pier 66 in Chelsea, and will bring the organization's mission to provide high-quality sailing, marine education, and youth development to communities in northern Manhattan and the Bronx. HRCS is launching its Inwood branch at La Marina, a beautiful new restaurant and marina in a NYC park at the western end of Dyckman Street.

At the heart of HRCS's mission is Youth Development programming, where HRCS partners with eight New York City high schools to offer academic credit to students by teaching STEM education, job skills, and leadership development through sailing and boat building. The academic curriculum is designed with NYC Department of Education teachers to support standards, and HRCS currently works with 120 students in this year-round program.

Upon opening, HRCS will offer fee-based sailing education to families and adults, as well as free "Community Days" to the general public and community groups. HRCS's next step will be to target public schools and youth organizations in neighborhoods surrounding Inwood to expand its youth development work.

"We couldn't be more excited to launch our Inwood location in partnership with La Marina," noted Robert Burke, Executive Director of HRCS. "We've established a strong track record of offering high-quality sailing and education through our programs in Chelsea, and are excited to leverage that and bring our brand of youth development and community sailing to a neighborhood with little access to the Hudson. It's a new chapter for us."

The Inwood branch will be open every weekend beginning this Saturday, August 22 through late October. To book a sail or learn more about the community sailing programs, please contact info@hudsonsailing.org.
