PANERAI SPONSORS NANTUCKET RACE WEEK’S TWO DAY 12-METRE REGATTA

12 MEter Class Start at the Opera House Regatta Nantucket Island, MA, August 12 & 13, 2010 – Nantucket Race Week’s two day 12-Metre Regatta kicked off Thursday amidst perfect sailing conditions - easterly winds of 12-15 knots, clear skies, flat water. Crews of the competing 12-Metres welcomed winds clear skies, flat water and morning Northeast winds of 16-20 knots, which clocked around to Southeast winds of 12-15 in the afternoon as the sea breeze filled in on the second day of the Panerai sponsored event.  Comprised of six classic 12-Metre yachts, the fleet competed in Nantucket Harbor in two classes; Northern Light, Gleam and Onawa made up the vintage class, while Weatherly, Columbia and Nefertiti comprised the traditional class. 

Panerai barometers, engraved specially for the 2010 Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge, were presented to the winner of each class during the well attended awards ceremony at Nantucket Yacht Club on Friday evening.  The gorgeous Onawa won the vintage class, while Columbia won the traditional class.  Following this event, all six 12-Metres will be participating in Sunday’s culmination of Nantucket Race Week, the Panerai sponsored Opera House Cup Regatta.
