Audi Sardinia Cup, ISAF Offshore Team World Championship Now Underway

Porto Cervo, 28 June 2010 - The International Melges 32 has achieved yet another tier of prestige by participating at the 2010 ISAF Offshore Team World Championship, also known as the Sardinia Cup hosted by the impeccable Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, sponsored by Audi. The event commences on June 28 and runs through the weekend, featuring several of the fleet’s best teams from all corners of the world.

Front and center, paired alongside of Jim Richardson’s Barking Mad, is 2009 World Champion Pieter Taselaar on Bliksem. Porto Cervo is familiar ground for this young and energetic outfit so by far, they are favored to do well. 2010 Audi Melges 32 Sailing Series circuit leader Luca Lalli on B.LinSailing.com joins forces with Giovanni Maspero’s Joe Fly, Lanfranco Cirillo on Fantastica partners with Massimo Mezzaroma’s Nerone and Miami Grand Prix Champion, Jean-Francois Cruette’s Teasing Machine works hand-in-hand with Wolfgang Schaefer’s Struntje Light.

The International Melges 32 Class would like to welcome brand new owner Tony Buckingham on Ngoni to competition. It will be his debut peformance alongside Andrea Canavesio’s Mangusta Risk.

Eight teams total have assembled to not only enjoy the phenomenal sailing conditions the mediterranean has to offer, but also a line-up of social events that is simply difficult to match anywhere in the world.

Sunday and Monday of the championship were set aside for registration and measurement. Tuesday thru Saturday will present the opportunity for a literal marathon of incredible team racing. Cocktails and apres racing socials are scheduled each day with a luxurious dinner — Porto Cervo style on Friday evening to usher in the final race day.
